So you’ve said yes, told all your friends and family
and set a tentative date. Now the next big step in the exciting
journey that will lead to your wedding day is selecting a
VENUE for the reception. Popular reception venues can get
booked up years in advance during the peak spring/summer period,
so you really need to make this a priority.
To help you find the perfect venue for your perfect day,
here are a few handy hints and tips I have learnt in my experience
as a wedding coordinator:
1. Location, Location, Location
Think about where your guests will be coming from, how convenient
of access the venue needs to be, how far from the actual ceremony
venue it is and whether there is parking nearby. While of
course your wedding day is all about you, you do want to make
sure that everyone has a good time.
2. Keep an open mind
You may not realise that some famous locations feature great
wedding venues which will make your wedding extra special.
For example, many people don’t realise how beautiful
the Yarraman Crystal Palace at Sydney’s Luna Park is
until they visit the venue and experience the amazing facilities
and views for themselves.
3. Food Choices
Once you’ve booked the venue it’s time to decide
on menus. Think about your guests and what they are used to
and stay away from menus that are over the top or too unusual.
For example stuffed emu or kangaroo might be a cute idea but
it’s unlikely your guests will appreciate it!
4. Entertainment
Entertainment can make or break a reception, so you have to ask yourself: what
is the age spread of your guests attending? Do they like to dance? Make sure use
choose music that will appeal to everyone.
5. Theming & Styling
What do you want the room to look like? Do you want the room
themed in a particular way? If so, this is something you should
begin to think about early on. Work together with your venue
coordinator to discuss your ideas and ensure everything looks
just perfect on your big day!
